No police in Combine?!

At the close of the June council meeting, Councilman Paul Norman proposed that your Combine police department be DISBANDED.
Is that what we want?!

No police in Combine?

Maybe the thieves who broke into the new Pointview Baptist Church building to steal the wiring right out of the walls will be glad to hear it.
Maybe they will tell all their friends, too.

APPARENTLY HAVING A POLICE DEPARTMENT DIDNT DETER THEM. I HAVE TO SAY THAT I THINK THATS PROABLY A GOOD IDEA. BUT ITS DEFINATELY AN ISSUE THATS GONNA RUFFLE SOME FEATHERS. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK OF KEEPING US INFORMED.

I believe we will find that per Texas Local Code the citizens of Combine are at least entittled to a City Marshall. Do we want to go back there? At least with a police department the Mayor and Council have some measure of control. If Mr. Norman and crew would like we could have them call a special election for Marshall for at least some protection.

Protection from what?? We never had a problem when the Sherifs department was covering the city. The only time we have police protection now is during the day, during the week and sometimes during the day on Saturday. I have personaly needed a cop three times this year and every time I called to get one there wasnt one on duty so what are we paying for, what is the city paying for?? If someone breaks into your house while Combine has a police department and theres no cop on duty and they have to send a deputy or an officer from Crandall why is that any different then not having a police department and relying on the county all the time.

There's only so much patroling one full-time/one reserve officer can do!

And just so you know, relying on the County is not FREE. It was a lot more money than the City was already paying for the police chief and officers we already had. Previous Council members explored the possibility of having County law enforcement to patrol, but that is VERY expensive because the city would have to pay for the officer AND the county patrol vehicle by the hour. If Combine has no police, would the County want to charge the city or the individual home owner for making a call?!

Mr Norman wants NO police in Combine. You have to wonder WHY?! Let's be very careful what we are wishing for.

What a joke that we are even having a discussion about disbanding our police department. please someone explain why? does that mean our taxes will go down ? i know we have limited officers time now but wont it get worse. on another note where we the representatives from our city @ the school planning meeting last night ? they were invited to attend and lend their input and hear what is going on and none even took the time to show up.....very proud of our elected officials....while they look like idiots they could at least "pretend" to care

If anyone is willing to try their best to protect the city with limited resources and personnel, not to mention little or no real support from the powers that be, then the city should at least be willing to understand their position. I have pretty much been flying solo since Chief Armitage was injured, and I have contributed alot to the City with help and guidance from various sources. But honsetly, is Mr. Norman going to protect the City, or just trying to run it? I invite him to ride along with me anytime.

Uh... Y'all need to understand that you get sherriff dept's protection anyway BECAUSE, you live in the county. You already pay for it. The sherriff's dept would not be able to be here all the time but when you need them they have to come. Half the community already rests outside the city limits and if you call they will come. It's the LAW!
I personally don't get what make's some people beleve that haveing someone to write tickets and bring in revenue is a good thing.

Sure, a Sheriff's deputy WILL come when you call. But what if the nearest one is in Terrell? Or Rockwall - 30 or 45 minutes away?? That can't be a good solution.

Brad Ghormley- Combine needs police protection, even if its just one officer. When I was Mayor of Talty Texas that was the first thing we added( and we were a new town) Without some kind of protection everyone could be a victims at some point. This really surprises me that someone would would even consider disbanding what we have! Open your eyes.

WHY WOULD A DEPUTY BE IN ROCKWALL?? THAT DOESNT MAKE ANY SENSE. IT SEEMS THAT MOST PEOPLE ON HERE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF JOHNNY MATLOCK DONT SEEM TO REMEMBER A TIME BEFORE COMBINE HAD A MARSHALL AND HAD A POLICE DEPARTMENT OUR CRIME WASNT UP IT WAS THE SAME STUFF ALL THE TIME I CAN PROMISE YOU THIS IF YOU CALL 911 AND A DEPUTY RESPONDS HE WILL BE CLOSER THAN TERRELL AND DEFINATELY CLOSER THAN ROCKWALL (SINCE ROCKWALL IS NOT IN KAUFMAN COUNTY). I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH COMBINE HAVING A POLICE DEPARTMENT WHAT I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IS HAVING OFFICERS AND CHIEFS THAT DONT LIVE IN THE CITY, DONT KNOW THE CITIZENS AND DONT KNOW THE CITY. IF WE JUST WANT SOMEONE TO WRITE TICKETS IM SURE DPS WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO SIT OUTSIDE THE CITY LIMITS AND WRITE TICKETS ALL DAY BUT IF WE WANT SOMEONE TO ACTUALLY PROTECT THE CITIZENS THEN WE NEED TO LOOK A LITTLE CLOSER TO HOME.

Before we had a police chief and two officers we had several robberies and incidents that were not resolved. We need 24 hour coverage to stem the robberies in this community. With the hiring of a new police chief we may be on the way to better security and protection. Mr Norman is not the bad guy as some may think.

I never suggested that we disband the police dept. I only reguested
information so that the council
would know what our alternatives
are. I strongly believe that Combine should have a police department of its own. I also
think that we should be able to do
better than we have done in the past.

Idiots, this city is full of idiots. You people in Combine want to do as you please without consequence. Kaufman SO? I would rather have Dallas Police than those lazy good ol boys. Coby's dad, wow what a great choice for a chief. He is just a crooked as his son. You only want a officer from Combine because you don't wanna follow the law. Hope this city goes down ans Dallas annexes it.

Mr. Matlock II.,

I totally agree with what you posted. Writing tickets does not solve anything. I live about 1 block outside the city limits,Zack has told me personally there is nothing Combine can do. Unless, they are dispatched by the sheriff's department. Then, when Combine does arrive, it is too late anyway. Because, they are too busy writing tickets for frivolous violations such as not using a turn signal when pulling out at the store, or not slowing to 35 mph when approaching 3039 from 1389. This is absolutely ridiculous. They need to do something I would think EVERYONE wants, PATROL !!! But, that is probably too much to ask.

My name is Terry Thurman (Hey John Boy-Aint seen u in awhile)- email me egrtech@yahoo.. I grew up in combine and my folks still live out on Lanier near the cemetary.. I remember when combine had virtually 0 crime; of course I was a youngster then (couple yrs younger than Johnny).. These days I'd b willing to bet combine needs a small police force ie minimum of 3 officers to protect folks property when they are elsewhere.. I agree with a poster above.. Home grown police folk would be the best.. Your less likely to harass the populace if u live in the community. Of course most cops are stuck in that "I'm a cop ie above the law mentality and I'm gonna write tickets all day" rather than find out who's up to no good.. If I were a cop in combine I'd patrol patrol patrol.. As for tickets, alot of em are frivolous... Unless someone is just driving dangerous and endangering others why mess with em? My folks were harassed and ticketed over inspection stickers several times and they are in their 70's on SSI.. F those types of cops.. What u want are cops that are interested in violent crime and preventing it.. Not harassing the citizens to line the city coffers. posted anon as i dont see link to yahoo.

most property crime occurs in daylight hours when ppl are at work else in the weee hrs of the nite - think like 3-5am. SALUTE - see http://www.sew-lexicon.com/gloss_s.htm - one has to think outside the box... Most citizens ie 98% are law abiding in one fashion or another.. It's that 2% causing the problem.. lol..

Any1 ever analyze when these occurrances are going on and then set traps or "figure" these badguys next target?

Probably not... The cops are to busy putting tickets on the windsheild of my parents vehicle while they're in the church they've attended 20+ yrs.. lol

Donuts are the downfall of law enforcement... lol

PS- I've met real criminals and understand them to an great extent.. You cant have a sheep huntin wolves.. Only wolves find wolves..

I wouldn't need a gun... lol

As 4 patrol patrol patrol.. that's not fully effective. The greatest countermeasure against crime is knowing the ppl of that community and knowing when they should b there and when somethings not right.. If law enforcement is close knit to the community and not biased against any1 ie the poor, rich etc.. then they can fight crime effectively. Of course there's somethings' one cant teach.. US Army taught me more in 1yr than most cops learn in 10 yrs..
Ask Johnny I was not exactly an angel as a youngster... but neither was I a bad guy. By the way I dont want the job ... lol.. Im serious... Actually combine has 5 ways in and out rather than 4.. I mislead u earlier....

Many yrs ago say early 80's I needed cigarettes and drove from combine to seagoville- About matlocks new store ie rd to Crandall not htier old store. I picked up a guy on side of road at 3am in the morn.. The guy gets in my car and tells me he just robbed a house down matlocks road ie down near where the Williams used to live.. I played that fella.. I told him I was drivin to seagoville for cigs and went to what was then the stop and go about a block from seagoville police and got cigs and fuel.. While in store I told cashier to call cops while I fueled up.. I pumped slowly and the cops pulled up and arrested the fella in my passenger seat.. Trust me I know more things than 99% of most cops are taught in in cop school... I was pumping gas and the fella in my passenger seat was freakin out when the donut masters showed up.. -Terry Thurman

Hey combine cops leave my folks alone.. Wont b long b 4 they are in the ground.. Dont make they're last yrs on life a livin hell of tickets ie ssi and your medicine or pay the ticket. You need to focus on crimes of violence and theft / home invasions etc... Get your priorities straight..

One nite at say 3:30 am many yrs ago I came up behind a vehicle smokin real badly... It pulls into the matlocks store near the church.. I stop to ask the driver if they need help / ride.. The guy jumps out of car and flashes a badge - He was a Kauf county sheriff deputy and obviously intoxicated... He was a real threatning fellow.. Knew I best leave,so I did, as I wasnt a brotherhood member.. lol

i forgot to mention that Kauf county sheriffs deputy pulled a 45 on me and stuck it in my face.. I not being worried about death at that time being I was single simply pulled a fat one on him.. I talked him down enough to get in my car and leave.. You'll find no incident report as I figured a cops word would beat me in court... lol
