I'm sure at least some folks are talking about the roads. There are 3 potholes (right next to each other) that can swallow a small car on Davis Road near Harlan.
I hope they get filled soon before they become one giant hole and start swallowing trucks! :)

Ask and you shall receive!
The road has been patched.
Thank goodness.

I wish the County/City would have warned me that they were tearing up Harlan road on Friday! I drove down my driveway to meet a mess! What the heck? Was anyone else aware that the road was being torn completely apart?

There is a new police chief. Glenn Grady he retired as a Captain with the DeSoto Fire Department he has many years in law enforcement hes a great guy and I think he will be a great assett to the City.

Harlan Road.. we had no idea it was being torn up- we ran into the same problem. Our small car took a real beating.
It's nice that the road is fixed. I hope it lasts.

Road work,,,speaking of a notice. Now they are Lanier. I hate to speak bad of good work as Lanier certainly needs the attention. But a sign, a notice, something would have been a freindly item. If you live or drive down Lanier,,,You will be very surprised this afternoon.

The Council discussed and decided this at the June 19 council meeting. I guess they considered that notice enough.
The Road Committee (Edward and Betsy - and just Edward really because Betsy is not legally serving on the Council) made recommendations for the next phase of road improvements in Combine based on information received from the County. The unanimous vote was to accept the recommendations to prep the majority of roads this year and chip seal them next year. The roads receiving attention now will be Davis, Valtie Davis, Haines, Lanier, Ramsey, Circle Drive and Loren Boyd in an amount not to exceed $100,000.
No drainage improvements are to be made to Combine roads in Kaufman county.
Combine roads in Dallas county will be regraded.

so, are they leaving the roads like they are now? This is worse than before, they were "not good" now they are "bad"

Surely you're not complaining about the roads that have been worked on recently. We drive Loren Boyd, Harlan & Davis every day, and it is wonderful to be able to drive without dodging pot holes.
My husband and I are so glad we can enjoy the beauty of Combine instead of staring at the road and trying to avoid holes. The roads may not be perfect, but they are a milion times better than before.

I personally think the roads are better considering the County we live in!

Yes, complaining about the roads. Saying it is the normal due to the county I disagree. Kaufman county does not have as a rule inferior roads. Just seems that Combine has more than its share and we get caught in the fact that our streets are not County roads but rather maintained by our "city". But I guess we get what we pay for, folks don't want taxes, but they want good roads, they don't want taxes, but they want a full police force. yadda, yadda,,yadda. anyway

I have to agree -Kaufman County roads are horrible. Not just Combine! Forney, Kaufman and Terrell have their share of shitty roads.

I saw one of the new Combine police cars the other day. My first impression was "what/who is that" Then "that is the most ugly, unprofessional police cruiser I have ever see! Of course, I guess that what they drive is not important as long as it is dependable, safe and allows them to do their job. That is, if when had any police.

If I remember correctly when we had our town hall meetings the first two items of importance that the people of Combine wanted was 24 hour police and fire protection, road improvement was next.

After more than 2 years we still do not have 24 hour police protection. Of course, I have heard through people on the street in Combine that we do not need police protection. There is no crime in Combine. If we need someone call the county. Hogwash!

When I moved to Combine more than 15 years ago I was proud to be a part of this City. I now see what it is really like.

I have been to City Council Meetings and never felt so unwelcomed. The Council does not want the citizens of Combine there. They want to run the City as they see fit and to hell with what the majortity of the citizens want.

Do we need another town hall meeting to remind the council that they are here to serve the majority and not just themselve?

We do have 24 hour police protection. Your police chief lives in the city and is on call. sheriffs deputies patrol the unincorporated areas. And as far as the cars go they look alot better than they used to.

I feel sorry for the Chief. You expect one person to be "on call" 24/7? This is not 24 hour police protection. This is "on call" police protection. Who is out there patrolling the city? He can not do it all. Does he have a personal life? Guess not. He is on call for the City of Combine 24/7.

24 hour police protection takes at least 3 people. Each person having 8 hour shifts. I think the last time I checked there were 24 hours in a day. This is not enough. These people need a day off now and then. Gee! Maybe four would be better...Until we have at least 4 we do not have 24 hour police protection.

Maybe I am responding to the Chief. I do not know. If so, I feel for you. Hope you get some rest and fun sometime. If I am not responding to the Chief I hope you see that it is not fair to have him "on call" 24/7.

As far as the cars go..guess it is a matter of opinion. I still think they are plain, ugly and unprofessional. Again. It is more inportant for them to be safe and dependable. So looks really are not on top of the list.

Yep, to all the above. In the words of a Metallica song "sad but true". Roads are worse than they were before they messed with them, never see a police car unless they are running traffic at Point View Baptist church and never in the mornings when our new move in idiots are racing down FM1389 during school bus time. I am all for improvement and changing with the times, but the only thing I am seeing changing is folks moving in from someplace and bringing their bad habits with them to our sweet quiet little community. The big trucks from the construction on the river bottom tearing up what roads we have left. I love living here don't get me wrong it is still much better than many others places we could live, but it sure ain't what it used to be.
