I'm truly glad that people came out and exercised their right to vote, and express their opinions. If only people would react the same way on other issues, maybe we could change things in our world. This is what our fore fathers had in mind.

This happens everytime in a close race. The side that gets their early voters out wins the race. Signs do not amount to a hill of beans!!

Now that the bond has passed, and we have been witness to the ludicrous acts of the so called "leaders" of our community, maybe it is time that we "took back" Combine. How can we sit back and allow the legally questionable things that happen in our community to continue? The witch and her flying monkey's have had their way for way too long now. They believe that law does not apply to them, and have tried to pressured too many people to do things their way one too many times. I'm tired of seeing them holding court at Matlocks, and seeing that smirk that says, "See, I can do whatever I want, and you can't do anything about it." Are you as sick as I am? Then say it, express it. Let's not let Combine die because of the narrow minded, power hungry idiots that try to run everything. It hurts my heart for people to take advantage of their position and use it to insure their power and ignore what's best for the community that they pretend to care so deeply for. Yeah....SAY NO TO HIGHER TAXES!!! BECAUSE WE ALREADY STRUCK A DEAL WITH TRINITY VALLEY ELECTRIC TO TAX YOU!

I am apalled at the leaders of the opposition. I watch a man and his paid employee putting up the signs yesterday. Why cant he take them down in a timely fashion like the other side did. They are on church property. No respect! They are still up all over the community.
This just proves that they are a bunch of clowns. Sore loosers!

HOORAY OUR KIDS WIN !!!!!!! AS WELL AS THE FUTURE OF OTHER CHILDREN TO COME THROUGH OUR COMMUNITY. I THINK A REAL CAN OF BEANS HAS BEEN OPENED IN THIS BOND ELECTION AND I HOPE OUR COMMUNITY CAN REPAIR THE CUTS, BRUISES AND SCRATCH THAT HAVE BEEN ADMINISTERED AND MOVE ON. ONE THING FOR SURE THAT I SEE IS THAT MANY PEOPLES EYES HAVE BEEN OPENED TO SOME VERY INTERESTING TACTICS THAT ARE GOING ON AND I HOPE THAT THAT CAN BE HEALED AS WELL.

Here is a question. Has the city of Combine entertained the idea of bring the rest of the Combine area into the city limits? I know there are many folks that enjoy our city-less designation, however, it limits the pool of potential city officials and we get accussed of enjoying and benefiting from city services without having to pay for them. I do not pretend to be in the know of what the pro's and con's are to the city for have the rest of us in the city limits but I would be surprised if there was indeed a negative. Then if there are city taxes, we all pay and there would be more for the city to be able to do their business with as well as again provinding a larger pool of folks that could participate in city affairs such as myself. The city line runs right in front of my home and thus I do not count as in the city and thus do not have a voice, at least that matters come voting time. So, anyone have any insight on the expanding the city limits to include the area we already consider to be "combine"?

Well, not being in the city and 'having a voice' doesn't seem to matter to Carlton Stanton or Betsie Dennie - but anyway...
Services that affect you on a daily basis—such as education, law enforcement, street maintenance, and public health—are usually provided by local units of government such as cities, counties, and special districts. There are two types of city government in Texas. General-law cities, with less than 5,000 people, function under the general laws of Texas. Home-rule cities can make their own laws, unless those laws are prohibited by state or federal laws. (Seagoville is a Home-rule city.)
Combine is a Type A General Law city and as such does not have the power to annex areas outside the city limits. However, it COULD be possible for property owners to choose to bring their property into the city limits.
But there are some qualifications. For example, if your property is in a sub-division at least 51% of the property owners in the sub-division must agree to bring their property in to the city limits. If your property is NOT in a sub-division and if the city limit line touches your property on any side you can possibly petition the city to bring your property into the city limits.
Mr Parker is right. A larger pool of citizens to be involved in city affairs is a GREAT thing. In fact, we can't effectively measure here the impact that would have on Combine.
Contact your city officials @ http://www.combinetx.com/index.html.
Come to council meetings on the first Monday of each month.
Check city hall for posted notices for regular and special meetings.
Everybody should GET INVOLVED!! It's YOUR city after all.

I just do not understand where all this hostility comes from. In Combine there seems to be two sides only and that is the ones in power now and the ones who lost it after passing a tax on people. Handing out a questionair and asking what people think they need and then justifying that with a tax is as dumb as anything else I have witnessed. I do think that the school bond election was needed. I do not think that the CISD board did a good job with how they chose to put it out for a vote. It unverves me to know that the money that I and the rest of us will pay can and will be used without input from the citizens. You can say that it is all earmarked but if you have lived here, you know, that it may get used to hire a freakin chopper to dry out the football field. Or some such missuse as that. If we only need 20 mil or 35 mil then that and only that should be awarded. As far as anything else, man up and face the folks that are on the other side. You may see that most of us are not that far off.

what questionaire are you talking about?

The first part of "manning up" would seem to be posting your name on this site. Very few have been willing to do that. How can we face you if we don't know who you are?

I agree with the "manning up" comment. As I have mentioned on another post, you can't get the credit you deserve if you don't post your name.

I for one think CISD did a great job communicating to the community about the bond. I have witnessed how other school districts handle situations like this and it was not half as good as CISD. Thanks to everyone who put in the time and effort on the bond committees. You did an outstanding job and should be proud.

As for the city of Combine, I applaud every citizen who dedicates time to our community. I do wish some would stop referring to the council as if they are one. There are five individual council members and a mayor, and I know they don't ALL always have the same opinion. Back in April of this year, no one ran against the incumbents and they were re-elected unopposed. I know there are good people in this community that would make great council members. There are three seats up for election in April, Brandon's being one. At this time he is undecided as to whether or not he will seek re-election. If he doesn't run or does and is not re-elected, I hope his seat is filled with someone who puts the community needs before their own personal agenda, as I feel he has done.

Despite the drama, we still love Combine and wouldn’t live anywhere else. Amy Barber

Why do you think there was no input from the citizens regarding the school bond when the exact opposite is true.
A report from a citizen committee of 50+ people who studied the facilities and the needs of the district over a 4 month period was presented to the School Board. That sounds like complete citizen input to me. The district did not just wake up one day and decide to get a bond issue on the ballot for November. It took work and cooperation on the part of a lot of people.
These are reasonable people who care about the issues and concerns you have about YOUR school district. The school board meeting notices are posted on the district's website. Go to the meetings. Get involved.

Fine bunch of.... "ahem".... adults we've raised in Combine.

You all want to complain but none of you had/has the gumption to put on your big boy/girl underwear and run during the elections or to speak up during council sessions unless it's in a stage whisper from the back row.

The Dennie issue has been ongoing for over two years now. Don't you think that horse is beat beyond dead by now? Put your money where your mouth is and sue if you're sure of your self-righteous angst.

What purpose does it serve? Does it bring you joy tearing down when we should all be buidling up?

So now we're back to name calling under the guise of being anonymous. Even the owner of this site brings forth slander under the banner of telling us their version of the so-called "truth".

Hmmm........pot meet kettle!

I think the Bettsy issue will be over when she is runs for public office in her own district. I really do not think she will run again anyway so hopefully its a mute point.

Afraid not. She just got reseated for a two year term in May, 2007 because she was unopposed. She will be your illegal city council representative until May, 2009 - unless she resigns or is removed by your city council.

I think the Texas Ethics Commission needs to hear about this issue of people running and being elected without having to abide by the rules set by the State of Texas.

Enough already if you think someone needs to hear about it then tell them because none of us need to hear about it we already know and we all know nothing is going to change so get over it and quit bringing it up. People are beginning to use that issue to blame things on. It comes up during almost every subject on this site, besides who really cares its not like the Combine City Council is in charge of some enormous multi million dollar budget and she is only one council person you people act like she is judge, jury, executioner.

Can someone please tell me how we can create a new post? Is the "Know Combine" the only person who has the ability to update this site and create posts? I would like to see what the community thinks about the new Seagoville sign at the Combine exit. Any thoughts? Also, another comment about this site......a date along with the time would be wonderful.

I really do not like the fact that the Seagoville sign is at our Combine exit. It should be at the Dallas County line on Hwy 175. We need to collect money to put our own sign on the other side of the bridge. Welcome to COMBINE "The Highland Park of Kaufman County."
I am proud to live in Combine. Been here my whole life and dont plan on ever leaving.

We could use the city money we are not spending at the current time for police protection to build the sign. Put that money to good use.

Does anyone have more information on the electric (TVEC) tax? Seems like I read there was going to be a new tax levied on Combine residents.
